In one week, Southbank opens Seneca and the Soul of Nero. Here are some answers to your questions:
No way! I workshopped Seneca in IPC and none of the participants had prior knowledge. They all loved it anyway. No prior knowledge of ancient Rome necessary.
Seneca and the Soul of Nero is about the failure of political insiders to rein in their despotic rulers. (Sound familiar?) But it’s also about relationships — between parents and children, wives and husbands, and one’s relationship and responsibility to society.
NO! It’s a drama, but also has a lot of amusing moments. And also some very dark moments. If you like to laugh and cry, you’ll love this show.
Probably PG-13. The Romans were a little crazy, so the show does contain some adult situations, violence, suicide, incest, and brief (not explicit) intimacy. If you have further questions, please feel free to ask us about it. (Marcia is letting her 6th grader see it, but wouldn’t recommend it for younger than that.)
