Under the direction of Max McCreary, Southbank will present Shaina Taub’s musical adaptation of Twelfth Night April 28-May 8 at IndyFringe outdoors. Auditions will be held February 22 and 24! We are seeking an inclusive cast, and actors from historically underrepresented groups are highly encouraged to audition. (All actors will be paid a stipend.)
Four female presenting roles; seven male presenting roles (We happily cast non-binary and trans actors, and we may do some gender swapping, too.) Please prepare a brief monologue (no more than 2 minutes) from a Shakespeare play — particularly a comedy. Bring sheet music for the song you’d like to perform (only about 16-20 measures needed). Also be prepared to read from provided sides and sing part of a song from Twelfth Night. (Sides will be provided at auditions. Songs can be heard on Spotify or here.) Women’s Principle Characters are in the Alto range. Men’s Principles range from Tenor to Bass.
Play synopsis:
Shakespeare’s classic gets a New Orleans makeover in Shaina Taub’s Twelfth Night. Viola is shipwrecked in Illyria and crossdresses to protect herself. She falls in love with Duke Orsino but cannot reveal her secrets. Meanwhile, Orsino is in love with Olivia, who wants nothing to do with him. Everyone’s crazy in love!
